Aidan Harold is a first year student at the University of Toronto, where he studies political science and is a part of the Munk One program at the Munk School of Global Affairs. Aidan was formerly a student trustee from the Niagara Catholic District School Board for the 2015/2016 year. In his first year working with OSTAAECO, Aidan was an active member of the policy committee, and also served as the Golden Horseshoe Regional Representative on the Catholic Board Council Cabinet.
As a student trustee for the NCDSB, Aidan worked tirelessly to represent students, whether at the board governance level, with the Niagara Catholic Student Senate he cochaired, and through his membership of the board’s policy committee. At every opportunity Aidan advocated for progressive policy changes throughout Niagara Catholic, from making the uniform policy more accessible to committing to genderneutral language in all board policies.
Aidan’s passion for policy isn’t reflected solely through his work as a student trustee; he sits on the board of directors of Canadian Students for Sensible Drug Policy, a national student organization that advocated for progressive, evidencebased, and humanfocused drug policy reform. In this role Aidan attended the 2016 United Nations General Assembly Special Session on the World Drug Problem, to ensure that youth voices were being heard, as decisions that affect youth around the world were being made. Aidan also worked for three years for Niagara Region Public Health as a youth mental health advocate.
As the 2016/2017 OSTAAECO Policy Officer, Aidan is extremely excited to advocate for students across Ontario and to work for progressive policy changes that benefit students, the largest stakeholder in the Ontario education system. He is looking forward to working with the policy committee to draft position papers on important issues that affect students, and to ensure that student voice in Ontario is heard and respected at every level.
