Hirad Zafari – Public Board Council Vice President
Toronto District School Board

Hirad Zafari is a first year student trustee at the Toronto District School Board, and Vice-President of the Public Board Council of the Ontario Student Trustees' Association. He is a grade 11 student at Don Mills Collegiate Institute. His passion for the student voice lead to his candidacy for student trustee.
Within school, Hirad is head of his announcements team; announcing on Mondays and supervising every day of the week. He is called upon for various shows and events as an emcee or speaker. He is the SuperCouncil advocate in his school. He is looking forward to bringing Model Parliament to his school this year. His focus on school and determination for excellence have been noted by his teachers and peers.
Hirad feels strongly about equity and respect among individuals, and has been a Peace Tree ambassador since 2009. He held a workshop at the Future Aces Leadership conference for middle school students, teaching them the importance of understanding and appreciating different faiths.
Outside the boardroom, Hirad enjoys sports and being active. He has been playing soccer for North York Armour Heights SC for about 6 years. Currently ranked 11th in Ontario, Hirad's team is aspiring for a position in the Ontario league. His school's soccer team were regional champions in 2009/2010, and he has been to the city championships for distance running (800m/1500m) throughout middle and high school. He is also a passionate ping-pong player, and is aspiring to bring a table tennis team to his school.
Hirad hopes to spread the word of Student Trustees, so that students in his own school board and across Ontario know that they can be heard. He looks forward to a great year of advancing the student voice together with OSTA-AECO.
