John Tertan– Operations Officer

York District School Board

John Tertan is a grade 12 student at Markham District High School and is serving his first term as the Student Trustee for the York Region District School Board and the Operations Officer for OSTA-AECO.

His passion and dedication to social activism and enhancing the student voice has involved him in numerous clubs, activities, and councils, including the York Region Presidents’ Council where he engages students in discussions about education at the regional level. John has shown his commitment to improving the welfare of his local and global community by volunteering extensively at several facilities such as the Markham Food Bank and by organizing numerous charitable events that have increased awareness and understanding about social issues.

His motivation to become a Student Trustee came from his deep desire to make a positive impact on the world. In his role he is advocating for equity and inclusivity in schools, mental health, and a host of other important causes. Working collaboratively with different stakeholders he hopes to achieve some noteworthy progress in the year to come and he is confident that he will be able to accomplish his goals.

As a student John has always shown a great commitment to his school and his studies, but in his spare time he enjoys playing tennis, cycling, skiing and reading a good novel. He is very excited for the promising year ahead and all he hopes to accomplish.
