Judy Hanwen Shen– Chief Financial Officer

Hamilton Wentworth District School Board

Judy is serving her first term as Student Trustee at Hamilton Wentworth District School Board. She is in her final year in the Self Paced program at Westmount Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario. As a yearly proficiency award winner, Judy has a zeal for academics; particularly physical sciences, English and political science.

Throughout high school, Judy has engaged in a wide diversity of extra circular activities such as Student Council, Athletic Council, Health Action Team, Student Leadership Team and Social Committee. She is currently Social Convenor of Westmount Secondary School.

Judy has a strong love for music of every genre. She has played flute, saxophone and percussion in various Jazz and Classical ensembles both in and out of school such as Hamilton Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and Hamilton Rising Stars Jazz Band. She has achieved grade 8 RCM flute and is currently working on at Grade 10 level.

Judy also enjoys serving the community through helping lead a youth group at church, helping students with homework at SISO Hamilton and volunteering at St. Peters nursing home. In May 2011, Judy won the Ontario Youth Service Award for her 4 years of devoted service at St. Peters.

Judy has a passion for exploring opportunities to learn new things and meet incredible people in the summertime. In the past three summers, Judy has participated in enrichment programs such as the LEAP McMaster biomedical engineering program, the international MEI French enrichment program and the Shad Valley program at Université Laval.

Whenever Judy has spare time, she loves playing tennis, dancing, jogging, writing short stories, drinking tea and going to the symphony. She believes in delighting in the beauty of today while looking forward excitedly to the promise of tomorrow.
