OSTA-AECO’s Board Council Conference (BCC) takes place this February 16-19, 2017, at The Westin Hotel in Ottawa.
The Ontario Student Trustees’ Association – l’Association des élèves conseillers et conseillères de l’Ontario is thrilled to invite Ontario’s Student Trustees to our annual Board Council Conferences! Held in the heart of our beautiful nation’s capital, BCC’s is an opportunity for Student Trustees to plan and participate in exciting initiatives organized by our Public and Catholic Board Councils. OSTA-AECO provides Student Trustees with unparalleled professional development, allowing our members to discuss and address student issues from across the province, while also giving every Student Trustee a chance to serve on one of OSTA-AECO’s various committees. OSTA-AECO is proud to represent a united and positive student voice in Ontario, and we look to every school board to be represented.
Accommodations are the responsibility of each delegate and school board. A block of rooms has been reserved under Ontario Student Trustees’ Association at The Westin Hotel in Ottawa. Student Trustees are strongly encouraged to stay at the hotel where the conference is taking place for supervision purposes.
What to Bring
Student Trustees must bring the following to the conference:
– Ticket or proof of ticket purchase
– Signed Code of Conduct form
– A completed credit card authorization form (required for hotel check-in)
All meals are the responsibility of the individual delegate and their board.
A finalized agenda will be included in the conference package upon arrival. A tentative agenda will be released shortly.
All conference activities taking place at the The Westin Hotel require business attire. Adherence to the dress code shows respect for the responsibilities fulfilled as Student Trustees.
OSTA-AECO is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all members. As a result, all student trustee attendees are required to sign and return a Code of Conduct during registration. Failure to comply to the items listed in the agreement will result in the immediate contact of the student trustee’s Director of Education and parent or guardian.
All of OSTA-AECO’s conferences are supervised by adults from the association’s Board of Directors, who serve in accordance with strict supervision procedures. OSTA-AECO’s Board of Directors is comprised of seven past Student Trustees, appointed by the OSTA-AECO Executive Council on a biennial basis. While they maintain a legal and fiduciary responsibility to the organization, they also serve as supervision during conferences. There will always be a male and a female supervisor on duty, 24 hours a day for the duration of the conference.
These measures ensure that all school boards may send their student trustees to OSTA-AECO’s conferences in confidence, knowing that their safety is of utmost importance.
All questions or concerns about OSTA-AECO’s conferences can be directed to our Professional Development Officer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
