Catholic Board Council

The Catholic Board Council consists of student trustees in Catholic boards across Ontario. The president of the Catholic Board Council is Ben Smith and the vice-president is Christina Atrach. The Catholic Board Council hosted Ontario Catholic Student Youth Day (Journée de Jeunesse Catholic) to celebrate and promote Catholic education as well unify Catholic students from across Ontario. The CBC’s magazine, Keep the Flame Burning is meant to highlight the diverse and creative ways in which our Catholicism has been celebrated through the works of our students.

The second annual Ontario Catholic Student Youth Day took place on May 3, 2016, in which the Catholic Board Council united Ontario Catholic students using the theme of “Opening the Doors of Mercy.” We challenged students to show us how they’re opening the doors of mercy, and here’s what they came up with.

Public Board Council

The Public Board Council consists of student trustees in public boards across Ontario. The president of the Public Board Council is Shams Medhi and the vice-president is Rita Ramotar. This year, PBC is working on position papers as well as the Ontario Public Student Wellness Summit. The council works on creating position papers that represents the collective view of students on particular issues. Recently they have participated in advocating for the students’ right at the table for collective agreements.

The Public Board Council of OSTA-AECO is calling on the government, education unions, and school boards to formalize their commitment to “Put Students First” by including the necessary language in all new collective agreements.
