Fan Wu - Executive Secretary                                         Return to Executive

Toronto District School Board

Fan Wu is currently one of the student trustees for the Toronto District School Board and serves as the Executive Secretary for OSTA-AECO. He attends Don Mills Collegiate Institute and is in his twelfth year of school. Fan is very active both within his student body and his school board; he is the editor of the school newspaper, vice-president of the debate and trivia teams, and president of the student activity/advocacy council. Once a shy, withdrawn person, Fan is now extremely interested in people and the way they interact, and takes on leadership positions to serve as many of his peers as possible.

His biggest focus, both as a trustee and in his personal life, is on equitable education and ensuring that opportunities are as inclusive as possible. As a gay Asian-Canadian, his perspectives are numerous and range from being a part of the oppressed minority to the in vogue majority. By battling his own prejudices, he hopes to better understand the plights of the downtrodden,

from the 'handicapped' to survivors of abuse to victims of race-based segregation.

In his leisure time, Fan Wu is an avid reader, writer, and taste-monger. He is a gourmand, consuming music, books and movies as though they were as necessary to life as oxygen. Poetry and plays are his writing specialty, and he has been both an actor and a playwright in youth programs at the Tarragon Theatre.
