Named one of TIME Magazine's 25 leaders of tomorrow from around the world, Gorick Ng is a strong proponent for community service and a student advocate. Gorick was first elected in as Student Trustee in 2007 and then became the first Student Trustee in the history of the Toronto District School Board to be re-elected for a second term. Gorick has provided a strong voice for students, standing up for issues such as equity, accountability, and a strong public education system. While holding public office, Gorick proposed the revolutionary Student Leadership Policy, SAC Handbook, and a motion to have all school cafeterias in the Toronto District School “Eat Smart!” certified.
In his role as Student Ambassador for the Toronto Foundation for Student Success, Gorick has played an integral part in the success ofFeeding Toronto's Hungry Students Week as well as in nutrition programs across Toronto. | Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute in Toronto.He has appeared on CBC Radio, the Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun, the National Post, the Globe and Mail, Sing Tao, Ming Pao, Epoch Times and a variety of other media outlets to further the voices of students in Toronto and in the province of Ontario. As President of OSTA-AECO after serving as Director of Operations, Gorick looks forward to working with a dynamic body of student leaders from across the province to further the student vision. He is excited to complete a comprehensive study on the state of student leadership in the province while continuing the important advocacy work the association has already started in ensuring that all students have equitable access to extracurricular activities. Gorick has been the recipient of a number of awards, including Bentley University and TIME Magazine's Tomorrow25 award, the Chinese Canadian Youth Achievement Award for Community Service, the Duke of Edinburgh's award, and the Doris Ferguson Memorial Award for outstanding leadership, social responsibility, multiculturalism and peace initiatives. |
