Donovan Chong - Executive Director                           Return to Executive

formerly Ottawa-Carleton District School Board

Donovan Chong was a two-term Student Trustee and former English Public Board Council President of OSTA-AECO from the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board first having been elected in the 2007-2008 school year and again for the 2008-2009 year. In his role as a student trustee within the Ottawa area, he sought to promote multiculturalism and inclusiveness as a main priority within schools and the promotion of inter-faith activities throughout the district. In the spring of 2009, he undertook a board wide study of 70,000 students to create a consultative report about the areas of improvement where the board should be focusing in order to improve the lives of students in the classroom across the district.

Currently, Donovan is attending Trinity College at the University of Toronto studying International Relations. An avid linguist, he holds claim to literacy in 14 written scripts with a working knowledge of 10 languages and is currently studying both Hindi and Turkish at the university level. In his free time, badminton and squash are his sports of choice - both of which are played at a competitive level.

Donovan is currently laying the groundwork for an expansion of the student trustee role out of Ontario and into other provinces in Canada as well as to various ministries of education across Europe. He hopes to see OSTA-AECO as a pioneer in the world of education for the student voice and as an advocate of the student vision internationally.
